Mathieu, Georges Biography

French painter, largely self-taught, who became one of the leaders of Art informel in Paris in the later 1940s, admired for his large abstract oil paintings done with great speed, using tubes of paint to draw lines directly on prepared canvas. In the 1950s Georges Mathieu executed such oil paintings in public around the world, repeating the same configurations like one signing his name. br>
