Kent, Rockwell Biography

American painter born in Tarrytown, New York. Rockwell Kent attended Columbia University School of Architecture. After 1905 Rockwell Kent spent most of his time traveling and painting in Maine, New Hampshire, Newfoundland, Greenland, and South America. Rockwell Kent preferred painting the stark, bleak aspects of nature. Simple but strong, his landscapes feature formally balanced, decorative areas; Winter (1907, Metropolitan Museum, New York City) is typical of his artwork.
